Academy Award winner Dune: Part One’s sequel, Dune: Part Two, has officially hit the cinemas and is being coined as one of the best movies as the hype around the franchise continues to increase. Denis Villeneuve’s direction, paired with inspiration from Frank Herbert’s novel, and a stellar star-studded cast has truly been a recipe for success once again.
Timothee Chalamet and Zendaya have showcased their talent time and again in Hollywood and beyond, and they have done so with Dune: Part Two as well.
However, given the ending of the sequel one can’t help but wonder about the fate of Chani, Zendaya’s character, and one of the core parts of the ongoing plots, aka Paul Atreides and Chani’s love story. If you’re curious about the same, keep reading to find out more.
What happened to Chani in Dune: Part Two?
For all the fans who shipped Paul Atreides and Chani, Dune: Part Two was a bittersweet experience. The two characters had a few highs in their love for one another, however, the lows felt a lot heavier as they took over, ready to destroy any relationship between the two.
Toward the end of Dune: Part Two, Paul drank the Water of Life, which truly changed him, and also led him to The Emperor, whom he asked for the right to marry Princess Irulan.

Now, the war will continue, and get bigger than ever, but Chani chose to remove herself from the situation, even if that meant leaving the Fremen. This served as the end of Chani and Paul’s relationship, at least for the time being, as she is seen riding away in the desert.
Will Chani appear in Dune: Part Three?
Although Warner. Bros has not confirmed Dune: Part Three just yet, Denis Villeneuve has hinted at the same. More importantly, Zendaya has also spoken about her potential involvement with a third movie in the franchise.
As reported by Variety, when asked about the third movie, Zendaya said,
“Would we be down? I mean of course. Any time Denis calls it’s a yes from me. I’m excited to see what happens.”

Florence Pugh, who plays the role of Princess Irulan is likely to get much more screen time in Dune: Part Three, should it happen, as compared to the second movie.
However, Chani’s return for the sake of Paul Atreides’ character arc, and for the Fremen is also very important. Undoubtedly, fans will be seeing more of Chani in the future of the Dune franchise.
