American writer Harlan Coben’s books have often been adapted into series that have been streaming on Netflix for the last few years. Some of these series include The Stranger, Safe, Stay Close, The Woods, and Hold Tight amongst others. However, one such series found its home on Amazon Prime as opposed to Netflix, and received praise from fans and critics.
Shelter revolves around the life of the protagonist Mickey Bolitar, who is forced to live with his aunt after the traumatic death of his parents. However, as Mickey moves into his father’s old home and hometown, he begins to uncover secrets that are far beyond one’s imagination.
Shelter Season 1 will make you grip the edge of your seat, and with a cliffhanger ending, one can’t help but wonder what’s next for Coben’s drama series.
Has Shelter been renewed for another season?
Harlan Coben’s Shelter was released on Amazon Prime Video amid the SAG-AFTRA and WGA Strikes on August 19th. According to Screen Rant,
“Amazon’s Prime Video has canceled three shows, representing its first post-strike announcements as the streamer culls its programming.”
Following this report, it was revealed that one of the three shows that were canceled by Amazon Prime Video was Shelter, despite the good ratings and reviews that it has received.
Sadly, because of this decision, fans of Shelter will not get the closure that they deserved after the cliffhanger presented at the end of the first season.
However, since most of Coben’s work is on Netflix, it is always possible that the streaming service might give shelter to this mystery series. Albeit, there are no updates as of now, do check our website for the same shortly.
How did Shelter Season 1 end?
As aforementioned, Shelter did end on a cliffhanger, with a lot of loose threads, much like most of Harlan Coben’s work that will wrap you up in a mysterious world. Mickey Bolitar saw his father die in a car accident, however, after he moves to his father’s hometown, things begin to change quickly. After an old lady tells Mickey that his father is alive, Mickey doesn’t know what’s real and who to believe.
Soon after, he and his friends dive into a world that they could have never imagined, where they end up saving young women from being trafficked. In the last episode of Shelter, Mickey gives one last shot to make sure whether or not his father is alive, while his aunt gets her brother’s body exhumed. The last scene of Shelter shows Mickey’s father for a brief second, and that’s where the series ends.
Shelter left its viewers with several answered questions, that might continue to go unanswered if Amazon Prime Video doesn’t change its decision, or another platform doesn’t pick up Shelter for Season 2. But, only time will tell.
